A while back, a couple of Aussie farming families got together to make something better. A better place to raise chooks. A better way to treat them. And a better product for those who care where their food comes from.
It all started back in 1973, when two Queensland families — the Benfers and the Elks — decided to do chicken farming differently. They believed in a better way: raising birds with care, respecting the land, and delivering quality food to tables. That belief became Golden Cockerel, and from there, the brand we know and love today: Elgin Valley Farms.
Today, those same values guide everything we do. We’ve grown from a few local farms to a network spanning South East Queensland. From the valleys of Toowoomba to the Glasshouse Mountains, and our heart at Mount Cotton, these aren’t just places on a map. They’re part of who we are. Generations of farmers have worked these lands, and their experience shows in everything we do.
